What to Expect: A welcoming and safe environment for learning and community building. The workshop location is located just off of a public bus line and is wheelchair accessible via sidewalk to grass. Each day will be made up of a combination of discussion around Place-Based Building; the use of building materials and traditions relative to a given place, and timber framing as an example of this in Vermont. Days will also include lots of hands-on learning as we introduce tools, learn about tool maintenance and cut our own timber frame market stand. The course will cover the fundamentals of design and construction of timber framing as well as offer space to explore issues of inequity and inaccessibility in the trades. We strongly encourage future builders of color, women and trans folks to apply. Students can anticipate informal conversations around how to make the building trades more inclusive, the intersection of building, agriculture and the environment, women’s empowerment, cross-cultural building techniques and whatever else you might bring to the table!
